Meet the Author: Kayla Paul

Originally from Perth, Western Australia, I began travelling overseas as soon as I could save up enough money to afford a plane ticket to Europe (which we all know isn’t cheap!). Until recently, I only travelled during my holiday breaks (usually a maximum of 4 weeks total per year). But in 2020, I quit my full time job to travel ‘permanently’, and since then I have been running my own online marketing business while travelling as much of the world as possible with my husband, Jake.

Due to no time constraints, I’ve been lucky enough to experience ‘slow’ travel, which means I can spend a longer amount of time in each city and really get to know it. Along with my trusty little black notebook, I began documenting good coffee shops, nice sights to see and making comments about cultural differences or nuances unique to the city or its people — the things that aren’t easy to find on Google and you only learn by spending more time in a city.

I realised a lot of the travel recommendations I received from friends and family were centered around good places to go to eat, iconic sights or generally facts about the city.

It’s hard to remember all of the little differences that make a travelling experience truly unique, like which cities enforce strict rules, which are predominantly cash-based, or which ones really don’t take kindly to tourists who speak a different language or look foreign (yes, they unfortunately exist).

So with this website, my goal isn’t just to share my top places to eat, drink and visit. I hope it can be something much more than that.

There are still so many places I haven’t visited, but I hope my tips and tricks can help other travellers like you find the “hidden gems” and enjoy each city so much more. If you like the content you read, or have a recommendation for me, I’m all ears. Send me a message on socials.
